Sabudana Khichadi and Vada

Sabudana Khichidi and Vada  is popular Indian fasting dish made from soaked sabudana/topica pearl/sago pearl.It is healthy and delicious also perfect for breakfast/brunch/lunch box. In Sabudana Khichdi and Vada main ingredients are boiled potato and soaked sabudana.In sabudana  khichdi  add pomegranate seed gives good flavor and also it helps in digestion.Sabudana vada  you can add some beetroot ,it make vada healthy and delicious.


Sabudana  Khichdi-

  • potato-1( boiled)
  • Sabudana-1 cup
  • Salt – 1/2tsp(to test)
  • Cumin seed-1/2 tsp
  • Cooking oil – 2 tbsp
  • Green chili – 1-2 finely chopped
  • Curry leaves – 7 to 8
  • Cashew nut-4-6
  • Pomegranate -1/2 cup
  • Coriander leaves-1 tbsp finely chopped
  • Lemon juice-1 tsp

Sabudana vada-

  • Sabudana-1 cup
  • Potato-1 boiled
  • Beetroot-1/2 cup grated
  • Cashewnut-4-6
  • Salt-1/2 tsp
  • Green chili-1 tbsp finely chopped
  • Coriander leaves-1 tbsp finely chopped
  • lemon juice-1/2 tsp
  • Cooking oil for frying


Step 1 – Wash sabudana 2 times ,cover it and soak for 2 hours keep aside.Break potato in small pieces keep aside.

Step 2 – For Sabudana Khichdi- Heat 2 tbsp oil  in a nonstick pan add cumin seed when seed crackle add black paper,chopped green chili,curry leaf ,cashew nut cook 30 seconds ,add potato   cook 1-2 minutes, add salt mix proper add soaked sabudana on medium heat   cook 4-5 minutes add lemon juice  mix well add coriander leaves mix it remove from heat and cover it for 2-3 minutes .Add pomegranate seed and serve it.

Step3-for Sabudana Vada-Take all ingredients in bowl  mix well .Make small ball from mixture and give round/flat/oval shape.

Step4-Heat oil in nonstick pan for deep frying.Slide vada in hot oil cook 2-3 in medium heat ,turn it cook 2-3 minutes other side till vada crispy,puffy in both sides.

Serve sabudana khichdi and vada with coconut chutney/almond chutney/groundnut chutney/plain curd.
