Coconut and Apricot Modak

Modak is a popular sweet in Maharashtra,India during Ganesh chaturthi. This is made with coconut and additional  flavor of apricot, dry fruits  gives a unique taste.

Ingredients( serving-11 )

  • Coconut – 1 cup grated
  • Milk – 2 cups
  • Sugar – 1 cup
  • Apricot – 5 to 7(dry) finely chopped
  • Saffron – few threads
  • Cardamom powder – 1/2 tsp
  • Pistachio – 1tbs finely chopped
  • Almond- 1 tbs finely chopped
  • Nutmeg powder – 1/2 tsp
  • Ghee – 2 tsp


Step 1 – Heat non-stick pan then add milk,coconut  cook for 10 to 15 minutes until mixture become dry then add sugar and cook 5 -10 minutes.

Step 2 – Add ghee, apricot, pistachio, cardamom  powder and mix it proper. Cook it for 5-7 minutes in medium flame. Add saffron then keep it aside and let it cool for 10 minutes.

Step 3 -Take small ball from dough and give in to modak shape with the help of hands/ mould.  Make all  Kodak similar way. Modak are ready to be offered to Lord Ganesha.
