Mohanthal is an Indian traditional Gujarati/Rajasthani sweet/barfi. Made with gram flour fudge and flavored with saffron and dry fruits.Mohan thal   is  ideal for offering to God and it is also festive dish.

Ingredients (serving-10 )

  • Sugar(brown sugar) – 1cup
  • Ghee – 1/2 cup
  • Milk – 1/2 cup
  • Cardamon powder – 1tsp
  • Rose water – 1 tsp (Optional)
  • Pistachio  –  3 to 4 finely chopped
  • Gram flour – 2cup
  • Water- 1/2 cup
  • Saffron – Few strands
  • Almond-5-6 finely chopped
  • Basil leaves-5-6(Optional)


Step 1  – Take one bowl and add gram flour, milk and 1 tbsp ghee. Mix it properly then cover it and keep aside for 30 minutes.

Step 2 – After 30 minutes use strainer and strain it,collect fine powder.

Step 3 – Heat remaining ghee and add flour mixture,roast until release a roasted aroma or brown color it will take 7-10 minutes. Keep aside and cool it(lukewarm).

Step 4  – Mix 1 cup sugar with 1/2 cup water and make one and half string sugar syrup, add cardamom powder and rose water.

Step 5- – Mix  sugar syrup into cooled mixture and continuous stir, mix proper it will take 3-5 minute(do not dry  long  time) and add 1 tsp saffron milk  mix proper.

Step 6 – Transfer mixture in to grease plate and press with spatula, sprinkle pistachio, almond and press with spatula, cool it for 5-10 minutes. When it is lukewarm  cut the small rectangle shape.
